SOLD OUT! TOUR #1: McMaster Nuclear Reactor Tour - This one hour guided tour will provide an overview of the McMaster Nuclear Reactor (MNR). MNR first became operational in 1959 and was the first university-based research reactor in the British Commonwealth. Originally designed to operate at a maximum power of 1 MW, MNR was upgraded during the 1970s to its current rating of 5 MW with a maximum thermal neutron flux of 1 x 1014 neutrons/cm2s. MNR is classified as a medium flux reactor and it is by far the most powerful research reactor at a Canadian university – the handful of so-called “Slowpoke” reactors at other institutions typically operate at a power of 0.02 MW. The bus will pick up registrants from the Marriott Mississauga Meadowvale Hotel at 8:30am and will return back to the hotel by 11:15am*** To register for this tour, click here

TOUR #2: Enhanced  CANDU 6 Control Room Mockup Tour: SNC-Lavalin - Come and see the only CANDU control room engineering simulator outside a utility in Canada. Get up close with one of only three engineering simulators of its kind in North America.  Learn how SNC-Lavalin uses this full-scale facility to improve human factors and see the differences between today’s CANDU 6 control room and the new EC6 control room. You’ll get a chance to watch the response of a CANDU plant in an accident scenario. The bus will pick up registrants from the Marriott Mississauga Meadowvale Hotel at 8:30am and will return back to the hotel by 11:00am*** To register for this tour, click here

TOUR #3: BWXT Canada’s Cambridge Facility Tour - At 275,000 square foot, BWXT Canada’s Cambridge facility is the largest commercial nuclear equipment manufacturing facility in North America and contains North America’s largest nuclear clean room for nuclear component assembly. Visitors to BWXT Canada’s facility will see several heavy nuclear components in various stages of production. BWXT Canada’s Cambridge facility also features a hands-on training centre where workers are given hands-on training prior to going to site. The bus will pick up registrants from the Marriott Mississauga Meadowvale Hotel at 8:30am and will return back to the hotel by 11:30am*** To register for this tour, click here
