OPG’s Darlington Refurbishment Reaches Important Milestone

The Darlington Refurbishment project remains on schedule and on budget, and has now moved into the next work segment after the safe and successful separation of the Unit 2 nuclear reactor from operating units and containment at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station. 

The next phase in the project involves reactor disassembly, which includes removing fuel handling equipment, installing a tooling work platform, and the removal of 960 feeder pipes.

What's Involved: Islanding a Nuclear Reactor 

The separation of a nuclear reactor from the rest of a power plant - a process known as islanding - requires detailed planning and preparation, as well as the collaboration of a large team of industry experts.
