Women of WiN

Rebecca Austman

Rebecca Austman
Title: Section Manager, Fire and Conventional Safety Training
Company: Bruce Power

Rebecca McLelland currently works as the Section Manager of the Fire and Conventional Safety Training Section. Under her direction, conventional safety, work protection, and fire fighter training is provided by a team of skilled trainers.

Rebecca has earned her Honours Bachelors of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University along with a Green Belt Certification in Six Sigma. She has also completed the Advanced Operations Overview Training Program at Bruce Power.

Rebecca recognizes her father for having the greatest influence on her career choice since he has worked in nuclear for 30 years and has always fostered interest in the industry. She truly believes in the nuclear industry and is very proud to say she works in it. She advises today’s youth that, ‘if achieving your goals is easy and fast, you aren’t setting them high enough.’

During her Development Student position at Bruce Power, Rebecca noticed the heavily weighted male presence in the nuclear industry, which inspired her to get involved with WiN. She continues to be a member because she enjoys being a part of a group that focuses on increasing the number of women in our industry. She thanks WiN for opening her eyes to how women overcame the stereotypes that still exist today.
