Linda Gillespie
Title: Radiation Protection Technician
Company: Nuvia Canada

Linda’s job as a radiation protection technician involves ensuring safety in and around nuclear plants and other industries that store radioactive materials. She thrives on the challenges involved in resolving power outages, decommissioning projects, containing reactors, and conducting environmental and land surveys. One of her most rewarding career accomplishments was working as part of the team that cleaned up the site for the Olympic Stadium in London, England in preparation for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Linda appreciates diversity and enjoys working at a variety of sites, power plants and nuclear reactors around the world. But it’s the people she meets and works with throughout Canada and internationally that have influenced her the most. She’s been enriched by working with people in different countries, cultures and languages.

Combining her love of travel and learning, Linda enhanced her post-secondary education by completing numerous radiation protection courses in Canada, the United Kingdom and her native Sweden.

Inspired by a co-worker, Linda joined the Eastern Ontario chapter of WIN. She’s looking forward to networking with other professional women in the nuclear industry and building relationships that could lead to new opportunities.

Asked what motivational advice she would provide today’s youth, Linda replies, “Nothing comes for free. Work for it. Believe, work harder, don’t lose sight of your goals and you will get there.”

When Linda takes time away from her busy work schedule, she enjoys traveling for pleasure, spending time with family and keeping fit through weight lifting, kickboxing and yoga.

As created January 2015.
