Women of WiN

Heather Convay

Heather Convay
Title: Site Communications Officer
Company: Ontario Power Generation

“Don’t be afraid to use your voice,” is the career advice Heather gives to young people. In her position as site communications officer for Ontario Power Generation, Heather uses her own voice to develop executive and site communications for staff in a variety of mediums. She enjoys the creative aspect of developing messages and web pages and the sense of accomplishment from seeing her work in different forums. One of her most memorable career experiences involved bringing the technology of Symon TV to the waste site and installing the monitors to each facility. This technology enables the monitors to communicate up to date information to our employees from our facilities in the east.
Prior to beginning her communications career, Heather completed a diploma in Office Systems Operations at Georgian College. She’s currently working on her Bachelor of Arts degree through the University of Waterloo.
Heather credits another successful woman in the nuclear industry, Cheryl Cottrill, for being a strong influence on her career and for inspiring her to join the WiN-Bruce chapter. Heather’s WiN membership has opened doors to new opportunities she wouldn’t otherwise have enjoyed.
Heather appreciates being a member of an organization that recognizes the accomplishments of women in non-traditional fields and helps them be heard. She sees the importance of reaching out to the next generation by encouraging young females to consider careers in fields such as science and technology. “I love the way they concentrate on the younger women coming up in the world like the Girls Science Club.”
In her spare time Heather enjoys activities with her family, including camping, snowmobiling, baseball and hockey.
As created March 2015.
