Lisa Grande currently works as an Engineer in Training at Ontario Power Generation. In this role she helps support the Engineering Mechanics Department. Her favourite part of her job is the amount of challenging tasks she takes on along with the diversity of assignments she is given. To date, her most rewarding project came when she prepared a report that defined the stress analysis required for Darlington’s refurbishment.

She credits her Deans, thesis supervisor and Faculty at UOIT for inspiring her to advance in the nuclear field. She is proud of the work she does at OPG as it gives her a sense of achievement, enhanced technical aptitude and allows her contribute to safe sustainable generation of nuclear power. Her advice to today’s youth is to “Be dedicated, regardless of challenges, and be adaptable to changing conditions.”

She originally joined WiN for the opportunity to advocate nuclear technology and for professional development. Being a member of WiN has increased Lisa’s confidence, broadened her view of the nuclear industry and has improved her communication skills and abilities. She thanks WiN for allowing her to network, obtain techniques to achieve a balanced lifestyle and learn about various careers and responsibilities within the nuclear industry. She also credits WiN for teaching her how to break down barriers to feel empowered as well as confident when facing new obstacles.

When she finds time to get away from work she enjoys knitting, photography and doing yoga.
